Things To Do In Akbuk, Turkey

Things to do:

In addition to enjoying the beautiful clear sea and the relaxing bay in the holiday resort of Akbuk, there are countless things that you can do to make your holiday break here as relaxing or as active as you want it to be.

In this blog site we have put together some key things which we feel may be of useful information to you, although not exhaustive with what the lovely resort of Akbuk can offer you, they are things to do which a lot of holiday makers feel are worthy and enjoyable to do at the same time.

What are the most popular things to do in Akbuk?
  • Relaxing by the swimming pool
You may or may not regard this as something to do whilst on holiday here? But without a doubt it is a thing which a great many of holiday makers and visitors to Akbuk undertake. The majority of holiday accommodation units here offer a swimming pool, some such as the Akbuk Yasmin Gardens complex have multiple pools that accommodate children and infants as well as adults. The same goes for hotel accommodation, most will have a swimming pool of one size or another.

  • Shopping in Akbuk village
This may not be everyones "cup of tea" but everyday you will see tourists shopping in the main shops in the village centre as well as at the well known Friday Akbuk Market. At this weekly market you can join in the hustle and bustle with the Turkish locals and seek out those bargains to bring back home. Looking to buy some great cheap priced T shirts or shoes? How about some beautiful quality towels? Or do you just want to buy some fruit and vegetables to stock your self catering apartments fridge up with? Whatever you are looking for you should find it in the Akbuk Weekly market.

If bartering in the local market is not for you then you can still go shopping in this lovely Aegean coastal village. In addition to small family owned shops you will find convenience stores, several reasonably sized supermarkets, and also shops that sell fishing tackle, cakes and bread, jewellery, electrical appliances, home improvement products, clothes, and much more.

  • Eating out
Dining out in Akbuk is simple and hassle free. You can choose to eat in an informal cafe, a take-away shop, or in around 20 restaurants that line the sea front area. Apart from one or two of the Akbuk restaurants you will find most offer good value for money dining coupled with traditional friendly Turkish hospitality.

When deciding where to dine out at in Akbuk most tourists take the following two steps to choose where to go:

1) They choose the type of food and then pick the appropriate restaurant, or 2) They choose the restaurant and then make their decision on what to eat from their individual menu.

As far as dining out in Akbuk goes we would suggest you choose what you want to eat first and then make the decision of which restaurant to visit. There are some really great dining establishments in this quiet holiday resort in Turkey, and it doesn't cost the earth to dine out here!

Without sounding biased here, it is our finding that the recommended Akbuk restauarants to visit are The Garden, Covent Garden, and also Pasa.

For more information we will be featuring our Akbuk recommended restaurants feature in the near future.

  • Boat trips
Unless you hate boats or get sea sick this is a must whilst on holiday in Akbuk. With a small harbour close to the village centre, Akbuk offers some great value for money boat trips by local operators that fit in well with most holiday makers needs. To name just a few you can take a boat trip around the local coastline with a boat operator that stops off at the best bathing and swimming stops, you can take a trip to a nearby island where you can enjoy a bbq or traditional turkish lunch, or at the other end of the scale you can opt for a private charter.

This last option is more cost effective if you have a large party so you can split the cost between a dozen friends or so, or as a suggestion - perhaps you can get the residents in your holiday apartment complex to club together and share the boat trip charter costs equally between them? If you get the right numbers together you will find this can be a really great day out whilst on holiday as well as being cheap on the pocket!

If you like swimming whilst on holiday a boat trip can be really beneficial as well as enjoyable; for usually less than £12.00 per head you can enjoy a relaxing day out, a nice cooked lunch, and some great swimming and snorkeling in the beautiful and clear sea at Akbuk.

  • Go on a jeep safari
If you fancy some adventure with a lot of fun thrown in, consider a day trip out from Akbuk on a Jeep Safari. Whilst you will not see elephants, lions, and giraffe on this excursion you will see what most holiday makers don't. The Akbuk Jeep Safari is a full day trip where you visit in a land rover places and sights that are off the beaten track. Think of hidden beach coves, winding mountain lanes, and fabulous scenery makes up this unspoilt part of Turkey.

This Akbuk trip is not for everyone as it is hectic and tiring to say the least, but it is one of the best fun things to do whilst on holiday here.
  • Go on a horse safari
If you are a reasonable horse rider then this could be just the right thing to do whilst here. An Akbuk Horse Safari is a really pleasant experience that lets you chill out and get some exercise at the same time! An experienced guide will take the group of riders off the beaten track letting you explore the scenic and quiet countryside around Akbuk, its forest areas, and mountain paths. Don't worry you don't have to be an expert horse rider to get the most out of this excursion, but we do recommend that you are able to ride a horse first. Depending on the time of year and group numbers you may also get a chance to ride your horse along the beach. Length of this trip can vary with some also including a light lunch.
  • Hire a car
One of the most popular things to do in Akbuk is to hire a car. With your own transport you are free to come and go as you please to your Akbuk Holiday Apartment or Hotel, whether this is for a day out to a local beach, the village shops, or to another location - perhaps nearby Didum or Altinkum?

There are several Akbuk Car Rental outlets where you can hire a suitable car from. Usually there will be several sizes of cars to pick from with a choice of rental services. Car rental in Akbuk is very affordable and with the village being of a small size getting around on its roads is quite easy. The traffic is normally free flowing with just the usual fast taxi drivers to avoid at night. Cars tend to be along the lines of a Fiat Punto or Fiat Doblo, these can usually cater for the standard family holiday number of passengers. One recommendation if you choose to hire a car in Akbuk (or anywhere else in Turkey for that matter) - please make sure you pay for sufficent insurance for vehicle damages including tyre and windscreen cover.
  • Sight seeing
This can take up as little or as much time as you want to whilst on holiday in this resort. Turkey has some great sights to take in with many on Akbuk's doorstep and some a short distance away. Always popular is a half or full day out to Didum or Altinkum, both of these resorts actually roll into each other and form a gateway route to other areas. If you fancy seeing a little bit of luxury whilst here take a few hours out to the new Marina in Altinkum. Here you will find the location for the mooring of luxury boats as well as a boutique shopping outlet, a quality cafe bar, and a luxurious high star hotel.
